Puerto Rico | Baltimore Travel Photographer

Last month, I spent three nights in Puerto Rico for a mini vacation. This was a mini vacation from my seven night stay in Las Vegas.  Although, my Vegas trip was for work (post coming on that next week).  If you live in Baltimore or DC, Puerto Rico is such a great place to visit for a long weekend getaway. It is inexpensive, its the beach, its a direct flight, its sort of another country…..and well its a beautiful beach.  While in Puerto Rico we visited San Juan and Rincón.  The first day in San Juan, I was absolutely exhausted.  The night before, my flight from Vegas to Baltimore had to make an emergency landing so I arrived back in Baltimore really late.  I got a total of ONE hour of sleep before heading off to Puerto Rico–not fun!

We toured around Old San Juan the first day and then headed west to the gorgeous surfing town of Rincón.  The first day in Rincón, the weather wasn’t that great so we set off to find a hidden gem off the beaten path called the Gozalandia Waterfalls.  This place was absolutely amazing and definitely a place only locals are aware of or at least that is the way it felt.  I climbed the waterfall and swung from the rope swing Tarzan style into the springs.  I love these types of adventures when traveling.

The next day was much prettier and had much better surfing conditions.  I of course rented a surf board, paddled out, hung out with the surfers, and then came back in.  Notice that I never actually surfed or even attempted to surf.  I have wanted to learn to surf for a long time and have tried twice.  So far I haven’t been super successful but I’ve always had fun pretending I’m a surfer.  I blame it on the size of the waves as I haven’t yet been in very good conditions for beginners.  The waves in Rincón were especially scary because there were jagged rocks a foot or two under the water.  So instead of surfing, I decided my time was better spent taking photos of surfers.  After surfing, it was snorkeling time which I loved.  The waves were a little rough so we had to be careful not to get cut by the sharp coral.  Luckily I didn’t get cut but I did get a few bruises trying to come back into shore.

After Rincón, we headed back to San Juan and spent the last day touring the El Yunque Rainforest.  The rain forest wasn’t necessarily what I had pictured in my head, but it was still absolutely beautiful.  Since we were there only a short amount of time, there were so many things that we didn’t get to do so I look forward to taking more quick trips back here.

Now, the question becomes, where should I go on my next travel adventure?
